Education Trainings

Unlocking Learning Through Visuals

Our collection of education-focused presentations is designed to inform, equip, and empower families, educators, and advocates. These presentations cover a variety of important topics such as writing effective IEPs, understanding special education laws and rights, navigating transition services, and supporting inclusive education practices. Whether you’re a parent preparing for an IEP meeting or a professional looking to deepen your knowledge, these resources provide clear, practical information to help you advocate effectively and support students with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

  • Dispute Resolution Training (PowerPoint) »

LDOE offers several dispute resolution options to help resolve disagreements concerning issues related to providing a student with a disability a free appropriate public education (FAPE), including but not limited to issues involving evaluations, eligibility, placement, related services, and implementation.

  • Key Policy Improvements (PowerPoint) »

  • April Dunn Act (PowerPoint) »

The April Dunn Act is a Louisiana law that provides an alternate pathway to graduation for certain students with disabilities who meet eligibility requirements. The April Dunn Act has removed barriers for students with disabilities allowing many students to earn a high school diploma instead of a certificate of completion, and to do so without having to repeat as many classes and assessments.

  • Act 479 (PowerPoint)»

Act 479 updates Louisiana’s laws on restraint and seclusion for students with disabilities. It requires cameras in all defined special education classrooms by February 1, 2026, and creates Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) and teams to improve crisis response. The Act also redefines physical restraint, updates reporting and parental notification rules, requires principals to review footage after incidents, and mandates that parents be informed if a classroom camera is nonfunctional for more than two school days.

  • Supporting Your Child’s Challenging Behavior (PowerPoint) »

A parent’s guide to Individual Education Plans (IEP) and Behavior Intervention Pans (BIP). Learn how IEP’s and BIP’s work together and discover strategies to advocate for your child effectively.
