NEWS

Managing a Special Needs Trust: A Guide for Trustees is a clear, understandable reference guide for anyone who is managing a special needs trust for a person with a developmental disability (beneficiary) and/or working with families on future planning. Using layman’s terms, the book explains how trust funds can be used to enrich a beneficiary’s quality of life by paying for some goods and services (e.g., vacations, clothes, recreation, special therapies) without risking the benefits of complicated government programs such as Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), Medicaid, and Section 8 housing.
Reflections from a Different Journey: What Adults with Disabilities Wish All Parents Knew includes forty inspiring and realistic essays written by successful adult role models who share what it is like to have grown up with a disability (including individuals with intellectual disabilities or autism). The essay authors were asked to write about something they wished their own parents had read or been told while they were growing up. Each eloquently written essay is an insightful source of wisdom, inspiration, and emotional support as well as a rare glimpse inside the lives and minds of people with many different disabilities. The essays offer many specific suggestions for parents as well as teenagers with disabilities, family members, and the professionals who serve them.
