1. What is Micro – Enterprise?

Micro – Enterprise is a small business loan program.  This program helps individuals with disabilities and the elderly start small businesses by offering them financial assistance in the form of a no interest loan up to $1000.00.

2. Who can qualify for this program?

To qualify for this program you must be a recipient of one of the following: New Opportunities Waiver (NOW), Elderly Disabled Adults Supports Waiver (EDA), Children Choice Waiver (CC), Supports Waiver, Residential Options Waiver (ROW), Programs of All – Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE), Adult Residential Care Waiver (ARC), Adult Day Health Care Waiver (ADHC), OR Long Term Personal Care Services (LT-PCS).

3. How do I apply for this program?

An application can be obtained by visiting The Arc of Louisiana’s website at www.thearcla.org or by contacting The Arc of Louisiana by phone, 1-866-966-6260.

4. Will someone be available to help me complete the application?

We encourage you to find help in completing the application by reaching out to people you have a personal relationship with such as, family, friends, support coordinator, or your service provider.   If assistance is still needed, contact The Arc of Louisiana.  We will schedule an appointment with you to help you complete the necessary paperwork.

5. Who can I call to help me develop a business plan?

There are Small Business Development Centers (SMDC) located at college campuses in each region.  Call and schedule an appointment, they will help you organize a business plan for you.  You can view a list of the SBDC at www.lsbdc.org .

6. Are there any fees?

Yes, there is a $25.00 application fee.

7. What are the loan amounts granted?

These are interest free loans for up to $1000.00.

8. How much time do I have to repay this loan?

Repayment of this loan starts one month after your business opens.  The amounts of monthly payment are determined by you and your business plan.

9. What if I miss a payment?

If you feel like you may need to miss a payment, or you just realized you miss a payment; call The Arc of Louisiana immediately.  Tell them the problem you are having and try to renegotiate your loan repayment.

The Micro Enterprise Business Loan program is a collaborative effort.  Through the Real Choice Systems Change- Independence Plus Grant, DHH- Office of Aging and Adult Services and The Arc of Louisiana were given the chance to develop and implement a micro-enterprise/small business loan program.
